The house was originally a dog trot and closed in at some point to create a foyer and a bathroom. The kitchen was added in the late 1930s. There are two wood-burning fireplaces, one on each end of the house. The original part of the house does indeed have the hand-carved beams and a solid foundation. Rich lighter pine covers most of the house, doing a wonderful job preserving this historic house. The house was recently painted.
