The 19060 Louis "Chick" Pauls, Jr home. the Pauls House is a modernist house that “calls attention to itself with its dramatic sunscreen, a tribute to the Parisian modern architect Le Corbusier.” Original blueprints are retained by current owners.
Known locally as the “upside down house,” 1310 or the Pauls House has a flipped floorplan with bedrooms on the first floor and the principal rooms on the second floor with a second-story glass façade so as to enjoy the view of the water over the single story house.
Architect, W. Irving Phillips, studied under Bernard Hoesli , Werner Seligman, John Hejduk, Robert Slutzki, John Shaw, Lee Hodgden, and Colin Rowe at the University of Texas in the 1950s and again with Rowe in the early 1960s (GAG, 129). These twelve “intellectual giants of architecture at the time” were later fired but reassembled at Cornell University and known as the “The Texas Rangers”
