When we compared The Phoenix Academy, which is a part of MANSFIELD ISD, with Mansfield High School, which is a part of MANSFIELD ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
The Phoenix Academy’s regular student population is 70 with a student-teacher ratio of 2.9 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Mansfield High School is 2,580 students and a student-teacher ratio of 18 students/teacher ratio.
The Phoenix Academy earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on one domain: student achievement. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 81 in student achievement, school progress is not applicable and closing performance gaps not applicable. It scored 81 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Mansfield High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 92 in student achievement, 84 in school progress, 84 in closing performance gaps and 90 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for The Phoenix Academy and Mansfield High School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at The Phoenix Academy. They make up for 38.57% of student population, followed by African Americans (37.14%), Whites or Caucasians (18.57%), Two or More Races (4.29%) and Asians (1.43%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Mansfield High School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 43.41%, followed by Hispanics (23.60%), African Americans (20.23%), Asians (7.36%), Two or More Races (4.88%) and Native Americans (0.35%).
Based on household incomes, The Phoenix Academy’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 62.86% compared to 28.84% at Mansfield High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, The Phoenix Academy has 9 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 12.86% of student population. Mansfield High School has significantly more ELLs at 84 or about 3.26% of student population.
In addition, The Phoenix Academy has 12.86% bilingual students, 1.43% are in the gifted and talented program, while 4.29% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Mansfield High School with 3.18% bilingual students, 10.50% gifted and talented students and 9.38% students in the special education program.
The Phoenix Academy's 24 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 8 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 16 years. Mansfield High School's 143 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 8.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 13 years.
Of its teaching staff, The Phoenix Academy has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has seven teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 11 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, two teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while four teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, and school has no beginning teacher. Mansfield High School has five teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 24 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 56 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 26 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 29 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including four beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. The Phoenix Academy employs 13 female teachers and ten male teachers. Of its teaching staff, two special education teachers are being assisted by seven teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs three staff members in the school administration department and two more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Mansfield High School employs 81 female teachers and 62 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 15 special education teachers are being assisted by 17 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs five staff members in the school administration department and 11 more working as school support staff.
