Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. When we compared Rogene Worley Middle School, which is a part of MANSFIELD ISD, with Cross Timbers Intermediate, which is a part of MANSFIELD ISD, we noted a wide disparity in ratings.
Rogene Worley Middle School’s regular student population is 685 with a 13.3 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Cross Timbers Intermediate is 572 students and a 12.7 students/teacher ratio.
Rogene Worley Middle School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 85 in student achievement, 86 in school progress and 87 in closing performance gaps. It scored 86 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Cross Timbers Intermediate not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365. The school posted 65 in student achievement, 69 in school progress, 70 in closing performance gaps and 69 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Rogene Worley Middle School's one out of seven distinction is in Mathematics. Cross Timbers Intermediate did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Rogene Worley Middle School. They make up for 36.06% of student population, followed by Hispanics (33.58%), African Americans (19.56%), Asians (5.55%), Two or More Races (4.96%) and Native Americans (0.29%).
The student population at Cross Timbers Intermediate is also predominantly by African Americans at 42.13%, followed by Hispanics (24.13%), Whites or Caucasians (21.33%), Two or More Races (6.12%), Asians (5.77%) and Native Americans (0.17%).
Based on household incomes, the Rogene Worley Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 41.17% compared to 69.41% at Cross Timbers Intermediate.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Rogene Worley Middle School has 72 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 10.51% of student population. Cross Timbers Intermediate has slightly more ELLs at 87 or about 15.21% of student population.
Rogene Worley Middle School’s bilingual students comprise 10.36%, gifted and talented students, 8.03%, while 12.26% are in the special education program. Cross Timbers Intermediate bilingual students comprise 15.21%, gifted and talented students, 4.20%, and 17.31% are in the special education program.
Rogene Worley Middle School's 51 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 9.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging 14.3 years. Teachers at Cross Timbers Intermediate, numbering 45 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 8.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 13.9 years.
Of its teaching staff, Rogene Worley Middle School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has 13 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 17 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 12 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while nine teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, and school has no beginning teacher. Cross Timbers Intermediate no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has 12 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 13 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 11 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while eight teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including one beginning teacher only.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Rogene Worley Middle School there are 34 female teachers and 16 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, eight special education teachers are being assisted by three teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has three staff members in the school administration department and three more working as school support staff.
