Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Martha Reid Academy, which is a part of MANSFIELD ISD, with Nancy Neal Elementary School, which is a part of MANSFIELD ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Martha Reid Academy has a regular student population of 484 with a 13.7 students/teacher ratio while Nancy Neal Elementary School has 408 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.6 students/teacher ratio.
Martha Reid Academy earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 88 in student achievement, 81 in school progress and 78 in closing performance gaps. A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Nancy Neal Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics and 25% closing performance gaps. Martha Reid Academy has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Martha Reid Academy. They make up for 37.19% of student population, followed by African Americans (26.03%), Hispanics (25.83%), Asians (7.02%) and Two or More Races (3.93%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Nancy Neal Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 43.38%, followed by Hispanics (24.26%), African Americans (20.34%), Two or More Races (7.35%), Asians (3.92%) and Native Americans (0.74%).
Based on household incomes, Martha Reid Academy’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 40.08% compared to 32.35% at Nancy Neal Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Martha Reid Academy has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 13.84% of its student population compared to 8.33% at Nancy Neal Elementary School.
In addition, Martha Reid Academy has 13.64% bilingual students, 3.93% are in the gifted and talented program, while 11.36% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Nancy Neal Elementary School with 8.33% bilingual students, 6.62% gifted and talented students and 11.27% students in the special education program.

The 30 teachers at Nancy Neal Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 6.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.6 years.
