Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Martha Reid Academy, which is a part of MANSFIELD ISD, with Imogene Gideon Elementary School, which is a part of MANSFIELD ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Martha Reid Academy has a regular student population of 484 with a 13.7 students/teacher ratio while Imogene Gideon Elementary School has 351 students and a student-teacher ratio of 11.9 students/teacher ratio.
Martha Reid Academy earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 88 in student achievement, 81 in school progress and 78 in closing performance gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Imogene Gideon Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Martha Reid Academy has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Martha Reid Academy. They make up for 37.19% of student population, followed by African Americans (26.03%), Hispanics (25.83%), Asians (7.02%) and Two or More Races (3.93%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Imogene Gideon Elementary School is also predominantly by African Americans at 40.46%, followed by Hispanics (27.64%), Whites or Caucasians (15.95%), Asians (12.82%), Two or More Races (2.85%) and Native Americans (0.28%).
Based on household incomes, the Martha Reid Academy’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 40.08% compared to 67.24% at Imogene Gideon Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Martha Reid Academy has 67 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 13.84% of student population. Imogene Gideon Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 92 or about 26.21% of student population.
Martha Reid Academy’s bilingual students comprise 13.64%, gifted and talented students, 3.93%, while 11.36% are in the special education program. Imogene Gideon Elementary School bilingual students comprise 25.07%, gifted and talented students, 1.99%, and 15.38% are in the special education program.
