Real Estate School - Elena Gonzales A Home Schooling Mom Goes Back To School

Posted by Elena Gonzales

JMJ.  See this picture?  I chose the image for a reason.  The big wide world of Real Estate is wild, flowing, and immense, seemingly reaching out to the edge of the earth...never stopping.  The pool is Real Estate School...it looks a little bit like its counterpart in the real world, but it is hemmed in, sparkling, and while you cant wait to dip your feet in and get them wet, you might have a hard time swimming out of the pool and taking the plunge into the deep.

For me, Champions School of Real Estate was the choice partly because  subconsciously I think it was engrained in me due to passing by the original school in the Champions area back when it was founded in 1983 and beyond. They have other Houston locations and are even in other cities, with that original school moving to a location off of the Grand Parkway.  Although I chose Champions School of Real Estate, I did like everyone does...I googled schools.  Champions kept coming up in my searches, I read the reviews, and then called the School. The lady on the other end of the line answered my questions and explained one of the most important things I didnt even know I should ask...the different options in how the classes are delivered...on-line at my own pace with videos, or I could do a traditional classroom and drive to an from, or I could do something really different.  Well, to a homeschooling mom, there is nothing different, and while I had heard of classes by Zoom, my kids hadnt done a class this way yet...so I was the first.  I must say, I love it.  Yes, the class has a set time, I was in a class with others participating through their computers or smart phones, and I had to study the book for at least 15 hours prior to the start of class.  The world now knows about classes and meetings by zoom, but for me, I had already finished  and passed the 6 required classes this way by zoom and was in the exam prep class when the owner of Champions School, Rita Santamaria, tapped into all the classes going on that first day of lock-down in March 2020, and re-assured everyone that Champions was going to do everything it could to keep students safe and that they were moving ALL classes to this format as soon as they could. Rita was a teacher who came from a real estate family, so she combined her two great loves and talents, and has lead her School superbly into the new millennium. They were already cutting-edge and they swiftly moved into action without missing a beat.

Why is this important?  Well, after receiving my license I started with Keller Williams Realty in Northeast Houston.  Their technology is cutting-edge also, and for many months all of their trainings and meetings were by...zoom.  Today, some things are still offered by zoom, while most trainings are live, and still there are many video and youtube offerings or updates.  As a Real Estate Agent, I have to keep up...utilize and embrace all the technology available. Just sayin.
