Buying a home and becoming a homeowner is a large and exciting life event. Because there is much to consider, you may be feeling a bit overwhelmed — which is understandable.

By purchasing a home, you are showing that you believe in yourself and your future enough to trust you can do something monumental. It can also mean that you believe in your future or relationship with someone about whom you care. Owning a home is a big deal, so think carefully about where you want to live but be sure to take in the excitement of the journey as well.

I suggest start your plan to purchase at least six months to a year prior to searching for a home.

This plan should consist of calling a lender to review your credit and reviewing your plan to buy.

You want to consider your credit score, your debt to income (what you spend verses what you earn). How much have you saved towards your home purchase? There a number of things to consider prior to going out looking at homes.

What else can you share with new home buyers?
