Flooding In Houston - Warning System

Flooding in Houston.

This is a photo of my street during the flood on April 18, 2016.  The couch was not floating down the street, it was part of heavy trash pick up. The couch was on our lawn.  This photo gives you an idea of how deep the water was on the street.  Our house didn't flood, but so many in our area did and it was the second time in less than a year in some areas.

Looking into some reports, 10-20" of water fell in the area in 24 hours and up to 4" per hour at the peak of the storm. This was an un-named storm.  But has the nickname, "Tax-Day Flood." There was no place for the water to go.  Houston filled up.  If you are curious about the historical data of the flooding in Houston, check out Harris County Flood Warning System's website.  https://www.harriscountyfws.org/  There are flood gages around the city, Pearland, Sugarland, Brazoia County and Fort Bend County.  Put your mouse over the area and you can see more historical information about rainfall and the level of the Bayou.

On the April 18th flood the bayou in my area filled to 46.5 feet, a year earlier 48.3 feet and in 2001 during Tropical Storm Allison the bayou peaked at 48.3 feet.
