TAMU is already well-versed in aerospace with four astronauts on faculty plus scientists and engineers who’ve participated in the NASA rover missions to Mars.  The students, faculty, and researchers at the university are currently working on nearly 300 space-related projects across TAMU’s 12 colleges and schools. State Rep. Greg Bonnen, R-Friendswood, authored House Bill 3447 to invest $350 million to create the Texas Space Commission, Space Exploration and Aeronautics Research Fund, and the Texas Aerospace Research and Space Economy Consortium.

In addition, the bill allocates $200 million to Texas A&M to construct the space institute, the release reads.
