Looking at the space, moving furniture around on a floorplan, I settled on an ideal location -- under the hanging vent system on one side of the room.
Closet systems abound on the internet. Target, Ikea, California Closets, Home Depot, Loew's -- all excellent with every possibility of designing the perfect closet. My final choice was The Container Store. They have an excellent space planner online -- great drafting tools -- printed up my customized order with all the necessary pieces and placed the order. I was able to pick up the entire order at the local store.
My next dilemma was how to encase the shelving -- this was not to be a traditional enclosure. Once I reached that decision, I called several handymen for bids. Narrowed the final round to three fellows who knew exactly what I wanted -- a box that could be attached to the wall to surround the wire shelving. Once I chose my handyman (all were excellent, but one was leaving for Afghanistan, another had a job that he was working on until the end of the month. Finally, my third choice was available within the time frame I desired. We settled on cost and labor. In one day my closet was built, the second day I spent painting it to match the walls, rehanging all my clothing. This was a good time to edit and weed out unnecessary clothing, time to dig through the boxes in the storage room. At last, the perfect closet with everything in it's place. A thrilling still life! And, the reason it all got started, those wonderful linen panels hanging in the front.
