Why You Should Clean Your Refrigerator Coils

Refrigerators are designed to keep food fresh and free from bacteria. If the interior of your refrigerator is not clean, the food will be exposed to germs that could make you sick. Instead of keeping your refrigerator clean, you may have allowed accumulated dirt, dust, and grime to build up inside over time. This results in an unclean environment called ‘microorganism growth’ or simply ‘mold growth’. If you do not take action right now. This can lead to more serious problems further down the road. Fortunately, cleaning the interior of your refrigerator can be as easy as removing access panels and washing out different compartments with soap solution. Follow these tips on how to clean your refrigerator coils:

Check the seals on your refrigerator

Whether you keep your food in the original containers or put it in a plastic bag and in the freezer. The seals are what keep food fresh. It is especially important to regularly inspect these seals if you plan to store food for a long time. When these seals are not in good condition. They may begin to leak and air may be let into your food. If this occurs, food will become stale much quicker than normal. To check for leaks, first look for any cracks along the seal. If you notice a crack in the Refrigerator Coils  you will need to get your fridge serviced soon so the seal can be replaced. Next, use a flashlight to inspect the seals in your freezer. Some models have deep grooves that can lead to freezer leaks if they get dirty. Clean these grooves with a damp cloth or a sponge if they are built into your freezer.

 

Clean the exterior of your refrigerator

First, look at the exterior of your refrigerator and wipe away any dust or dirt that you notice. If there is a strong smell coming from the appliance, it is important to clean the exterior. When it comes to exterior cleaning. It is best to not try to clean the base of the refrigerator. This is where the freezer and ice cube tray are located and it is not something that regular cleaning can tackle. Next, wash the refrigerator exterior with a mild solution of warm water and dish soap. Start by cleaning the front of your refrigerator with a sponge and move to the back and sides with a sponge as well. After washing, dry the refrigerator with a paper towel or cloth.

 

Wipe down the interior of your refrigerator

When cleaning the interior of your refrigerator. Start by wiping down the shelves inside the doors. If you notice that there is a strong smell coming from your refrigerator, it is important to wipe it down. If you are unsure whether the interior has become dirty.  Place a few containers of fruits or vegetables on one of the shelves inside the doors. If this causes any rotting or spoilage, clean the interior. When wiping down the interior. Wipe from top to bottom. This will ensure that you are keeping the appliance clean and bacteria-free. Next, clean the drawers in your refrigerator. You can use a wet cloth, sponge, or a dish rag to wipe down the interior of your fridge. Make sure to wipe down the bottom, front, back, and sides of the drawers.

Use an air compressor to clean your coils

One of the best ways to clean your coils is to use an air compressor to blow out your refrigerator. To do this, turn your refrigerator off and remove the doors of the appliance. Next, unplug your appliance and prop one of the doors open with a shoe, block, or other item. This will allow the air to escape and remove any potential odors. Next, prop the other door open as well. This will allow the compressor to blow air into your refrigerator. You will need to use a compressor that has a hose that is long enough to reach the coils. You may also need to use some pliers or a ladder to help reach the coils. Once the air compressor is connected, turn it on and let the appliance run for about 10 minutes. This will clean out any dust, debris, and mold spores from your coils. Be sure to close the refrigerator doors when it is running so the appliance does not overheat.

 

Don’t Forget to Put Things Back!

One of the main reasons that your refrigerator coils get dirty is that you do not clean the interior of your refrigerator enough. This can be especially challenging if you have a large model because it may be difficult to reach all of the nooks and crannies. You will need to take extra care when cleaning your refrigerator to ensure that you do not damage anything or make a mess while cleaning.  When cleaning your refrigerator, make sure to clean on the top, sides, and bottom of the appliance.  If you are cleaning your coils in your refrigerator, it is best to clean in the door. This will ensure that you do not accidently reach the interior of your freezer and make a mess. These tips will help you clean your refrigerator coils more easily. Follow these steps, and you will be able to clean your refrigerator coils and keep your food fresh and bacteria-free.
