These are some of the key benefits of multigenerational households.

The Pew Research Center defines a multigenerational household as a home with two or more adult generations. They include homes with grandparents and grandchildren under the age of 25. If your needs are changing due to health reasons, financial circumstances, or simply because youve reached a new phase of life, it might be time to consider multigenerational living..

A recent report from Generations United surveyed individuals living in multigenerational households and asked them about the key benefits of this housing arrangement. It said that 98% of all Americans in multigenerational homes feel that living in a multigenerational home leads to a successful, functioning household.

Some of the top benefits include enhanced bonds with loved ones, a positive impact on mental and physical health, opportunities for school or job training, and an improved financial situation. Many families come together because of a need, but theyre now staying together because of a choice.

However, more having adults under one roof means you may need more space. The top of the wish list for most homeowners with multiple generations is additional space for privacy.
