The Iconic Maceo Estate sprawls across more than an acre of land (4 contiguous lots) in the sought after subdivision of Cedar Lawn. Located mid-town you are near EVERYTHING Galveston. Beaches, restaurants, fishing, shopping, sightseeing are all less than 15 minutes from your door stoop.
But really, with a spread like this do you ever need to leave? This mid-century home was built to entertain. After Sam Maceo visited Frank Sinatra's newly built Palm Spring home in the late 40's, he commissioned E. Stewart Williams to design this stunning contemporary masterpiece. 
The street side of the home is well protected by the brick wall surrounding a court yard and the entrance of the home. Note the sloping gable roof which is new 2018.
The landscaped courtyard flanks the walkway to your entrance. The home is comprised of brick, red wood and glass on the exterior. The iron gate is one of two secure entrances to the home. The entire property has a 6 foot brick and wood fence.
The interior materials include brick, Flagstone, Travertine and Redwood. The entrance offers a glimpse of the South Wing past the interior brick walls and planters as well as views of the pool and landscaped grounds to the East. 
As we glide by the brick wall/chimney from the entry we encounter the dining area with the pool as your back drop. Large structural timbers dot the ceiling in the dining and living areas.
Reeded glass, as noted here, is a major component of the exterior of the home offering natural lighting and privacy.
On the other side of the brick wall/chimney is your spacious living room.
The real wood burning fireplace and chimney is the focal point of this large room. The ceiling fans are an example of mid-century meets modern in this timeless architectural masterpiece.
Fixed plate glass offer a vista of the gorgeous pool and tropical landscaping.
The design of the home offers both privacy as well as open spaces. The living room from this angle looks into the corridor leading to the study and South wing. 
We can also access the south wing by taking a right at the plate glass window.
The first room down the corridor from the front door is the 1/2 bathroom. You will find throughout the home that while the bathrooms have been updated all of the original sinks remain. Modern meets Mid-Century.
The next room is the study with numerous built-ins and shelving. Sam Maceo designed this room for his personal office.
From the office we can enter the master bathroom or go back out to the corridor and head towards the South Wing. Before heading to his master bathroom, note the wood paneling and closet. It is an understatement to note this home has an abundance of storage. Every room has built-in storage and closets that seem to be part of the walls. 
From the study we head towards his master bathroom. This dressing area is lined with closets, some are lit. Most of the cabinetry is built of American black walnut.
His (labeled for the time period) offers a large walk-in glass tiled shower with frame-less glass. Gorgeous granite adorns the counter tops. The original sink remains. 
From his master bathroom we access the massive Master bedroom. Travertine floors are found here as well as both bathrooms. 
A brick accent wall is found here as is access to a patio area.
While each bedroom offers a sliding glass door and access to the outside, the Master bedroom offers a true patio area.
Note the wall of American black walnut wood that reveals multiple closets.

Between the master bedroom and the living room is the Projection room. This room was built in anticipation of viewing the "Star's" films as they visited the Maceo Estate. 
The South Wing offers a "Wall of Fame'. So many notable gangster's adorn this wall. 
This guest en-suite is next to the master. Note more built-in cabinets and closets.
The green bathroom has the original sink and tiled shower walls. 
This "extra room" is currently used as another living area. 
Adjoining the extra room is another guest room currently used as a bunk room. This multi-purpose rooms was originally designed for the twin children of the Maceo's.

The last guest room in this wing has a gorgeous view of the grounds. Again, more built-in's are offered here.

From the Wall of Fame corridor we can access the pool area. The North annex is straight ahead.
